MELT
(The Salt Pile, Pike Slip & South Street under the Manhattan Bridge) (Varies) Noémie Lafrance akes over the Salt Pile, an industrial site used by the city to store salt under the Manhattan Bridge, for MELT, a surreal piece in which seven dancers, balanced on seats affixed to a wall, move their bodies while their costumes made of beeswax and lanolin slowly drip and melt away. The NY Clown Theatre Festival
(The Brick, 575 Metropolitan Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11211) (Varies) On Sept 3rd join the city's finest clowns, jugglers, stilt-walkers, and more as they gather at Union Square Park and ride the "L" train to the Bedford stop, then march to The Brick for a massive public pie fight. This year’s festival will feature diverse clown theatre artists from Wales, Mexico, Canada, and across the United States from California, Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Oregon, Chicago and New York City. Freud's Last Stand

Jean Miotte: Spirit of Defiance
(Chelsea Art Museum, 556 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011) (open Tu - Sa 11am to 6pm Th 11am to 8pm closed Su) Miotte’s artistic influences include performance, choreography, jazz music and Ballet, and of these his most seminal influence is Ballet. In London in 1948 he did set design and saw the work of Balanchine, the Diaghilev Ballet and Margot Fonteyn. Being exposed to this variety of art was of profound inspiration to him. Dance is the universal language of non-verbal communication, evident through performance. Miotte would experiment with gesture through painting and hone lyrical movement in his own art. ($8, $4)
